The Dayton chapter of IABC wants to see your face at the kick-off event for its 2009-10 season of educational seminars.
“Our first event will be fun and five dollars,” says Hayley Fudge, the new president of IABC Dayton. Fudge will be joined by IABC’s other volunteer board members at a social event on Sept. 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at Therapy Café in downtown Dayton. “We hope that the nominal price and easy-going atmosphere will draw in many of our members whom we haven’t seen recently as well as professionals who want to connect to the local marketing and communications community.”
Fudge explains that IABC Dayton has taken a new approach to its programming this year, to reflect the tightened budgets at many local companies. “We are introducing new options this year, including several breakfast talks. And we have relocated our traditional lunch presentations to smaller venues. Those attending will find the events slightly more casual and definitely more affordable,” she says.
At a time when many professionals opt for continuing education via web-based presentations or downloaded white papers, IABC Dayton is stressing the continued need for face-to-face connections. “Coming to one of our events to learn about a topic—such as social media as a business tool—is great,” says Fudge, but there are added benefits to getting together in the same room. “People meet new people, make connections, and chat about topics beyond just the scheduled presentation.”
IABC Dayton members and volunteers also spend time with local college students. “IABC helps us not only to learn more about the trends in our profession, but also to share our experiences with the next generation of professionals,” says Fudge. The organization welcomes new volunteers.
